Model 36 ABOP Air Bearing Optical Polishing

 

The model 36 ABOP (air bearing optical polishing) is designed for the production of large-area high-quality plano optics, or where high outputs are required. The machine has a 36″ (914 mm) optical pitch annular lap.

 

  • The unique air bearing feature has the pitch lap and its support plate riding on a very thin cushion of compressed air
  • Drive is from an offset motor via a lay shaft, and is transferred to the lap using a multi-vee drive belt located on the periphery of the support plate

PITCH LAP 

  • Manufactured and cast to suit the requirements of the customer 
  • The depth of pitch is approximately 2-3″ (50 - 75mm) 
  • Pitch lap conditioning is via a glass disc faced conditioning weight fitted to the conditioning station

WORKHOLDER RING 

  • The machine can accommodate unblocked and irregular shaped pieces 
  • The two/three workholder ring stations are fitted with friction drive, ensuring continuous rotation 
  • An eccentric oscillating motion drive is incorporated allowing reciprocation of the rings across the lap plate annulus 
  • The amplitude of the ring reciprocation can be adjusted
